West Fargo officer who died on duty is identified

WEST FARGO (AP) — West Fargo police have identified the officer who died after suffering a medical emergency while on duty.

Forty-year-old Lt. Adam Gustafson died Tuesday afternoon after experiencing a undisclosed medical emergency at the police station, officials said Wednesday in a statement.

West Fargo firefighters and ambulance paramedics attempted to save Gustafson who died later at Sanford hospital.

“Lieutenant Gustafson will be remembered for his contagious smile and laughter, along with his dedication, teamwork and service to the City of West Fargo,” said Police Chief Denis Otterness. “Lieutenant Gustafson has made a lasting impact within our department and he will never be forgotten.”

Gustafson joined the department over 10 years ago and had recently been promoted to lieutenant, police said.

A memorial honoring Gustafson has been set up in the lobby at West Fargo City Hall.
