Man in traffic stop dies after fighting with Mandan police

MANDAN (AP) — A 36-year-old man has died after fighting with two Mandan police officers following a traffic stop, police said Sunday.
Police made the stop in Mandan around 5 p.m. Saturday. After talking to the driver, an officer called for a second officer as backup. The man, from Mandan, drove away as the two officers talked to him and pulled into a driveway, according to the Mandan Police Department.
The man began fighting with the officers and was handcuffed, police said. Police said as he continued to resist the officers, he became limp and unresponsive.
Officers provided emergency aid to the man, but he died at a hospital.
The two officers are on administrative leave. Their names, and the name of the man who died, were not immediately released Sunday. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
