State Archives to present ‘Preserving Your Family Collections’ program
BISMARCK – A program on “Preserving Your Family Collections” will be held Oct. 15 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Legislative Assembly Room of the State Archives at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, Bismarck.
The event is free and registration is limited. Those planning to attend should register by Oct. 7 at preserving-family-collection.eventbrite.com.
Archives Specialist Emily Ergen and Head of Technical Services Stephanie Baltzer Kom will present strategies for organizing family collections including photographs, letters, certificates, audio and video recordings, documents, and books, and making items easy to find and share.
The discussion will include methods to ensure that important items are preserved, recommended archival storage supplies, advantages to various indexing techniques, and weighing the pros and cons of scanning.
The program is offered during American Archives Month.
The State Archives is a division of the State Historical Society of North Dakota and is located in the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum. The State Archives is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and the second Saturday of each month, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
