Bison men's golf signs pair on National Signing Day

FARGO — North Dakota State University head men’s golf coach Steve Kennedy announced Wednesday, Nov. 11, that Ian Simonich and Josh Galvin have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and play golf for NDSU beginning in the fall of 2021.

“We are very excited to announce the signing of these two players with the talent and commitment they possess to our program,” Kennedy said. “We are excited for the future of NDSU golf.”

Ian Simonich (Moorhead, Minn. – Moorhead HS)

High School: Four-year letterwinner and three-year captain for Moorhead High School…Earned all-state honors in 2019, while also being voted the team MVP…Selected as the Minnesota Junior Boys Co-Player of the Year in 2019…Earned medalist honors in five of nine tournaments played during 2019 season…Shot a 141 (71-70) to win the Minnesota Section 8AAA championship…Won the 2019 MGA Junior Boys State Championship with a 137 (68-69) and was medalist at the MGA Junior Team Championship…Had a 74.14 scoring average for the season…Had a summer scoring average of 73.61 during 2020…Had his 2020 high school season canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic…Shot a career-low of 64 at the Detroit Lakes Country Club during the 2020 MGA Junior Boys Championship…Finished 16th at the 2019 Minnesota State Golf Tournament…Won the 2020 Pine to Palm Invite…Tied for seventh at the 2019 MGA State Amateur…Named academic all-state in 2019…Academic letterwinner…Also a varsity letterwinner in hockey…

Personal: Son of Heather and Michael…Dad played golf and hockey at Concordia (Minn.)…Has two brothers, Joey and Drew…

“Ian has a great resume with quality wins, including the 2020 Pine to Palm Tournament,” said Kennedy. “He has talent to help us on day one.”

Josh Galvin (Maple Grove, Minn. – Maple Grove HS)

High School: Three-year letterwinner for Maple Grove High School…Earned first team all-conference honors as a freshman and sophomore…Junior season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic…Helped team to the 2018 Minnesota 3AAA state championship…Finished 15th at the 2018 Minnesota State Championships with a 149 (72-77)…Was the 2019 individual section champion with a 145 (73-72)…Finished runner-up at the 99th Resorters Tournament…Won the 2019 Sanford Futures Junior Tournament with a 142 (73-69)…Finished third at the 2020 Midwest Junior Championship with a 220 (77-70-73)…Tied for eighth for amateurs at the 2020 Bobcat North Dakota Open with a 216 (71-73-72)…Earned Medalist honors at the 2020 Tim Herron Prep Tour at Rush Creek with a 69…
