Execution and balance are keys for the Mavericks in ‘22

Last season saw the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood Mavericks finish with a 4-5 record, which ended with a playoff loss to Ray/Powers Lake. This year, the Mavericks will be going through a lot of changes, most notably a new region, however, head coach Cody Beck is looking forward to the challenge.

"We have a lot of changes this year including a new region. We are really excited to get to that first game and really prove who we are," Beck tells The Minot Daily News.

With the ability to showcase their skills in a new region being on the horizon, the goal for the Mavericks in 2022 is to aim to improve on a weekly basis and make a push for the playoffs by the end of the regular season.

How do Beck and the Mavericks plan on making a push for the playoffs? He believes it will be a result of the team being more physical this year, as well as putting forth a complete team effort every game.

"I believe we will play more physical up front and execute. We also want to stay healthy," Beck said regarding where he expects the team to improve. "We will be a balanced team. We will spread the ball around and have lots of players contribute."

One of the key returners for the Mavericks in 2022 is Cordel Sjokvist, the lone senior on the roster, who Beck expects to take on a large leadership role. In addition to Sjokvist, he believes juniors Riley Morlock and Cris Peppard are important returners, expected to chip in with leadership as well.

The Mavericks began their season on the road when they headed to Lewis & Clark on Aug. 19 to kick off the regular season.
