ND Beef Commission, others promote ‘Beef Month’ in ND

May 2022 is “Beef Month” in North Dakota and the North Dakota Beef Commission (NDBC) is partnering with several organizations to recognize North Dakota’s beef industry, the benefits it provides to the state’s economy and to the health of its citizens.

Throughout May the NDBC will be celebrating with a variety of activities from nutritional promotions in schools and universities to cookoffs and a road race. All events are designed to highlight the many ways beef and the beef industry have positive effects on our daily lives.

“Recognizing May as Beef Month is not only important in promoting beef as a product, but it also lets people know how proud the producers are of their product. They want consumers to recognize the care and effort put into the production and quality of beef, and recognize its high nutritional value,” NDBC board member Matt Lachenmeier said.

North Dakota CattleWomen are holding their annual virtual Be Beef Strong 5K throughout the month of May. Downtown or dirt roads, runners choose where and when to run. Proceeds drawn from entry fees go to providing beef snacks for North Dakota high school athletes participating in the Powered by Beef Program.

Baseball and Beef

America’s pastime steps to the plate as well. As part of the Bismarck Larks’ Opening Day on May 30, four lucky smokers will be invited to take part in a beef brisket smoking competition at the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. Also, as the team travels around the Upper Midwest this summer, it will promote beef through its “Beefy Boys” Lineup.

Meanwhile, the American Association’s Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will feature a Beef Batter of the Game and radio commercial’s highlighting beef during games.

Select Cash Wise Foods stores across the state are planning promotions to supply consumers with beef and other summer grilling ingredients.

Best Beef Burger Contest

NDBC is also hosting a social media campaign in search for North Dakota’s best beef burger. Follow along on the NDBC Facebook page to nominate, vote and crown the 2022 winner. Nominations will be held May 1-15. The four food establishments with the most nominations will move forward to be voted on May 23-31 to crown the 2022 winner.

North Dakota produces more than 794 million pounds of beef annually and contributes annual cash receipts from beef cattle sales totaling $2.632 billion.

The NDBC, representing North Dakota beef producers, manages the state beef checkoff program with the mission of enhancing beef demand by strengthening consumer trust and exceeding consumer expectations. This is accomplished through programs and activities in the areas of promotion, research and consumer information.
