SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 2020

President Ron Aberle called meeting

to order at 5:00 pm. Board

members present Ron Aberle,

Nicole Wald, Daniel Tyler and

Stephanie Munos. Also, present Su-

perintendent Gerding, Principal Han-

sen and Business Manager Twila

Gantzer. An open public forum was

held regarding the school’s Demo-

graphic 3 – 5 year plan. Mr Aberle

distributed a paper copy of the plan.

Mrs Wald expressed her concern re-

garding testing scores. She would

like to know how the school is plan-

ning to address this issue. Mrs

Munos mentioned that the testing

scores are not a true picture of our

school and the education the stu-

dents are receiving. M/S/C

Tyler/Munos to approve and make

this the official report. Roll call vote:

Aberle-yes; Munos-yes; Tyler-yes;

Wald-no. A copy of the plan will be

available to the public in the school

office or patrons may contact Mr

Gerding at 701 838 1262.The public

meeting closed at 5:11 pm. The reg-

ular school board meeting opened at

5:11 pm. M/S/C Munos/Wald to ap-

prove minutes from May 12, 2020.

Superintendent Report: Mr Gerding

presented a corrected copy of the

school calendar, with a change in

October. The administrator confer-

ence has been combined with

teacher’s conference. M/S/C

Munos/Tyler to approve the calendar

as presented. Savannah Arnott

would like to know if the school

would consider bussing to her home

where she has Kid’s First Daycare.

Mr Gerding noted we are trying to

keep our busses within our district.

The school board is fine with this.

Business Manager’s Report: The

financial reports were presented.

M/S/C Munos/Wald to approve

financial reports as presented and

approve payment of April payroll &

benefits $511,567.84. May board

bills: General Fund-$9,234.61; Ac-

tivity Fund -$2,626.96;

Food-$14,060.05. Prepaid Check

Register: General Fund-$-9,127.30;

Activity Fund – $5,183.86; Food –

$386.00. There was no action tak-

en on TA #60-Out. M/S/C

Munos/Tyler to approve TA #61-Out

as the parent does work at MPS.

#62 In. The 2020 School Board

Election poll book was presented.

The pool book was canvassed by

the board. The results were: Daniel

Tyler-218 votes; Dustin Mize-222

votes; Stephanie Munos-213 votes.

The school security mill levy-Yes

131 votes; No-141 votes. This

would have had to passed by 51%

majority. M/S/C Munos/Wald to ap-

prove the pool book as presented.

Mrs Hansen: Mrs Hansen is finish-

ing up this school year and looking

at scheduling for next year. Mrs

Wald asked for some clarification on

4th quarter grading. Mr Gerding ex-

plained how the grading was han-

dled with distance learning. New

Business: Mr Aberle was ap-

proached by the Blue Sox about us-

ing our busses for summer baseball.

Mr Aberle shared some concerns

from Tim Magnuson. Mr Aberle

thinks the school needs a written

contract to list what is expected.

The items to be included in the con-

tract: cleaning the bus, insurance,

the bus should be inspected before

the season and at the end of the

season, cleaning the field, use of

school equipment. They will use

the small bus for varsity games and

the large bus for Babe Ruth games.

Jason Feller will be driving. The

Blue Sox does provide their own in-

surance. M/S/C Tyler/Wald to allow

the use of the bus subject to signing

a contract. Roll call vote: Aberle,

yes; Munos, abstain; Tyler, yes,

Wald, Yes. Mr Gerding will try to find

the contract and incorporate the

necessary information. Unfinished

Business: First International Bank

loan information. The outlook for the

end of the school year was shared

with each board member. Mrs Wald

gave a very detailed list of issues

she expressed and concerns with

the end of the year. How will we

repay the loan, will the budget be

written by the same people, we need

more accurate budgeting, more ac-

countability, and better budget

analysis. M/S/C Munos-motion

failed for lack of a second. There will

be a special board meeting on June

24th at 5:00pm. The next regular

board meeting will be Wednesday,

July 8th at 5:00 pm. M/S/C
