Five power play goals put Beavers over Marauders

When the Minot State men’s hockey team last met the Marauders nearly two weeks ago, a tie left the Beavers with a broken five game win streak.
On Wednesday night, October 28, the Beavers enacted their revenge, topping the Marauders with a 6-1 victory, bringing their new win streak to three.
Though the first period of play was scoreless for both teams, the Beavers rallied for a strong second period, netting three goals while allowing the Marauders just one.
Matthew Yakubowski kicked off the points race with assistance from Colby Joseph and Joey Moffatt in the fifth minute of the second period, putting the Beavers up 1-0 over Mary.
Walker Jerome scored for the Beavers just over a minute after Yakubowski, with assistance from Joseph and Moffatt yet again for Minot’s first power play goal of the night.
The Marauders scored a goal of their own with just over three minutes left in the period, but Sean Williams responded less than 30 seconds later, as he scored Minot’s third goal to put the Beavers up 3-1 before the period ended. Williams was assisted by Austin Clyne and Ty Plaisier in another power play goal for the Beavers.
Heading into the third period, it took the Beavers eight and a half minutes to score their fourth goal, with Slade Stanick putting the puck into the back of the net, assisted by Christian Kadolph and Sheldin Howard.
Soon after Stanick’s goal, a rough hit at center ice by Minot State’s Logan Cyca sent the Beavers and the Marauders into an on-ice brawl. Several fights broke out between players across the ice, eventually resulting in 13 individual penalties, including a disqualification for one University of Mary player.
With the remaining minutes in the third period, the Beavers were able to squeeze out another pair of power play goals by Trenton Curtis and Trentyn Crane, putting the Beavers up 6-1 over the Marauders to end the game.
The Beavers improved on their record to 11-1-1 on the season.
The Beavers will head back to the Maysa Arena for their next match, as they take on Drury University in a pair of games on Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31.
