Beavers fall in close, one possession game

The Minot State Beavers suffered another one possession loss on Saturday afternoon, October 3, as they fell 24-31 to the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons.
Of the Beavers five losses so far this season, the Beavers have lost by seven points or less in all but one of them, this most recent game included.
The Dragons struck first just under halfway through the first quarter with a seven yard rushing touchdown, but the Beavers were only able to respond with a field goal. Senior kicker Dylan Duhon was able to launch the ball 49 yards through the uprights to put the Beavers on the board, trailing at 3-7 to end the first quarter.
The Beavers struck for their first touchdown of the game early in the second quarter as fifth year slot back Brandon Hines Jr. took the ball on a 23 yard run. Duhon completed the extra point to give the Beavers their first lead of the game at 10-7.
The Dragons took their lead back with just over two minutes left in the first half, scoring on a short four yard run to score.
Seconds before the first half came to a close, sophomore quarterback Jett Lundeen completed a 16 yard pass to freshman wide receiver Matyas Bily to bring the Beavers to a 17-14.
With less than 30 seconds left on the clock, the Dragons recovered the ball and made their way to the 45 yard line. In the final play of the half, the Dragons were able to secure a 45 yard field goal to tie the game 17-17 heading into half time.
The third quarter was scoreless for both teams, but the Dragons were able to score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Beavers were only able to score one more touchdown in the fourth with a one yard rush by Lundeen.
The game ended after the fourth with the Dragons up 31-24.
With the Beavers’ loss on Saturday, their record for the season fell to 1-5, with a record of 1-4 in NSIC play.
The Beavers will head back on the road for their next game as they play the University of Jamestown Jimmies on Saturday, October 10.
