Van Dort leads Minot women after first round

Minot State senior Natalie Van Dort led the Beavers women’s golf team to a first place finish after the first round of the United Printing Marauders Invitational in Bismarck.
The Beavers were at the Hawktree Golf Club for the tournament hosted by the University of Mary early Monday morning, September 28. Van Dort has already proved herself out on the links this season, but her performance on Monday left her at the top of the leader board.
Van Dort finished Monday’s round with an individual score of three over par-72, putting her squarely in first place heading no the second round.
Freshman Emily Watts followed close behind as the Beavers’ runner up golfer, finishing the round just four strokes behind Van Dort with an individual score of seven over par-72. Watts finished Monday’s round as the second place individual golfer.
With Van Dort and Watts leading the charge, the Beavers womens’ team finished the first day of tournament play with an overall score of 337, putting them in first place.
The University of Jamestown followed close behind the Beavers, finishing 13 strokes behind for a team score of 350.
Junior Max Palmer and sophomore Kasen Rostad led the way for the men’s team on Monday, finishing tied for seventh and tied for eleventh place with scores of one over par and two over par respectively.
Palmer finished six strokes behind Augustana’s Henry Hartquist, who finished in first place after the first round with a score of five uner par.
Augustana led the first round overall with their team score of 284.
The Beavers men’s team finished the day in ninth place with their score of 312.
The second round of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. fr both teams on Tuesday, September 29.
