Minot State hockey opens season with 3-1 win

The Minot State men’s hockey team kicked off their new season with a home bout against Arizona State University on Saturday night, September 26, at the Maysa Arena.
Arizona State struck first, scoring a goal just over five minutes into the first period. Minot State junior forward Kieran Cooke was quick to even the score for the Beavers, securing a goal of his own with assistance from senior forward Logan Cyca less than a minute after Arizona State’s goal.
The Beavers finished the first period tied 1-1, but they were quick to take their first lead of the game in the second period.
Senior forward Colby Joseph shot the puck into the net with assistance from graduate student Joey Moffatt and senior Trenton Curtis to put the Beavers up 2-1.
Joseph secured his second goal of the evening in the third period, putting the Beavers at a comfortable 3-1 lead. Joseph was assisted once again by Moffatt and senior forward Walker Jerome.
The Beavers faced off against Arizona State again on Sunday, September 27, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and ending after deadline.
The Beavers will head out of town for their first road game of the season as they face Maryville University in St. Louis, MO on Thursday, October 1.
