Minot State golf starts 8th and 10th after first round

The Minot State men’s and women’s golf teams traveled to The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minnesota, for their second tournament of the season, The Jewel Invitational.
The Beavers returned to the tee box for their first round of their second tournament on Monday, September 21, fresh off the heels of an impressive showing at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl.
Two of Minot State’s newcomers, Max Palmer and Emily Watts, both finished in the top five individually to start the season, but sophomore Kasen Rostad led the men’s Beavers after Monday’s first round, and senior Natalie Van Dort led the women’s team.
Rostad finished the first round with a score of two over par-72, netting five bogies and three birdies to land him tied for 17th place individually.
After his stellar top five finish in his first tournament as a Beaver, Palmer ended his round on Monday tied for 38th with a score of five over par.
Concordia-St. Paul’s Brennan Weckwerth topped the men’s leaderboard after the first round on Monday with his score of four under par.
The Beavers men’s team finished the round ranked eighth, with a score of 17 over par heading into the second round. They finished 18 strokes behind the leading Winona State.
Van Dort finished the round with a score of eight over par to tie for 20th place as Minot State’s top women’s golfer on Monday.
She netted six bogies and one double bogie to end the round eight strokes behind the tied individual leader, Addi Wood from Concordia-St. Paul and Carmen Jirele from Augustana, who finished the round on par.
Watts finished the round tied for 25th with a score of nine over par.
The women’s team ended the day tied for 10th overall with a team score of 60 over par.
Both teams will tee off for their second round of play at The Jewel Invitational at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22.
