Weekend football update: Sentinels over Williston, Fargo Davies over Magi

Minot North 35, Williston 20
The Minot North Sentinels are well on their way to another Dakota Bowl appearance this season, taking home their first victory of the year with their 35-20 win over the Williston Coyotes in their season opener at home on Friday, August 28.
Though the Coyotes were first to strike on Friday night, the Sentinels quickly took the lead in the first quarter of play with a pair of touchdowns.
Senior tight end Braxton Thompson ran the ball in for the Sentinels’ first touchdown of the game, and senior running back Cooper Chick ran the ball three yards for their second.
The Coyotes tied the game up in the second quarter with a successful two point conversion, but the Sentinels secured another pair of touchdowns in the third quarter.
Sophomore tight end Rohan Fauske ran the ball nine yards for a touchdown and sophomore quarterback Henry Woodbeck completes an 11 yard pass to junior tight end Gavin Gathman for their second touchdown of the quarter.
The Coyotes scored just once more in the fourth quarter, but the Sentinels’ own fourth quarter touchdown put them far and above Williston, winning the game for Minot North with a final score of 35-20.
The Sentinels will remain at home for their next match, facing off against Fargo South High School on Friday, September 4.
Minot High 40, Fargo Davies 47
The Minot High Magicians faced off against the Fargo Davies Eagles late on Friday night, August 28, for their season opener at home.
The Eagles were first on the scoreboard with a field goal in the first quarter after the Magi kept them from scoring in the red zone.
The Magi score for the first time in the second quarter, completing a touchdown and the extra point to lead at 7-3.
The Magi and the Eagles scored back and forth, trading the lead until the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Magi were down two possessions and were able to convert on the first one. The Magi needed to recover the onside kick to have a chance at scoring again, but the Eagles were able to recover the ball, ending the game with a Magicians loss at 47-40.
The Magi will head on the road for their next match, playing West Fargo Sheyenne on Friday, September 4.
Nedrose 22, TGU 44
The Nedrose Cardinals fell to a record of 0-2 on the season with their game against TGU. The Cardinals will plat at Dunseith High School for their next game on Friday, September 4.
Surrey 0, Lewis & Clark 44
The Surrey Mustangs fell to an 0-2 record on the season after their Thursday game against Lewis & Clark and will play at home for their next game as they face Westhope/Newburg/Glenburn on Friday nigh, September 4.
Bishop Ryan-Our Redeemer’s 50, Tioga 8
The Lions opened their season at home on Friday night, August 28, with a victory over Tioga. They will play their next game against Bottineau High School on Saturday, September 5.
Des Lacs-Burlington 0, Rugby 34
The Lakers took their first loss of the season after being shut out by the Rugby Panthers. The Lakers will stay on the road for their next game, traveling to Tioga High School on Friday, September 4.
Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 68, Dunseith 34
The Mavericks are still undefeated after taking down Dunseith High School. They will seek to extend their streak against Alexander High School on Friday, September 4.
Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison 6, Harvey/Wells County 0
The Aggies beat out Harvey/Wells County with a slim victory, putting them at 2-0 for the season. The Aggies will play the Stanley Blue Jays at home on Friday, September 4.
South Prairie-Max 0, Central McLean 30
The Royals fell to an 0-2 record with their loss to Central McLean. They will play Ray/Powers Lake in search of their first win on Friday, September 4.
