The Minot High boys soccer team is ranked second in the WDA after they secured their first win of the season on Tuesday, August 18, at home against the Dickinson Mavericks.

The Magi struggled to gain momentum in the first game of the season, and finally tied the game at 1-1 against the Jamestown Blue Jays. But heading into their Tuesday night game, the Magi had finally found their rhythm.

Dickinson struck first on Tuesday night with a goal in the second minute of play, but the Magi were quick to fight back in the first half.

Callen Hoewt tied the game for the Magi with his unassisted goal in the 28th minute. Hoewt struck again for the Magi not soon after, this time with an assist by Grayson Steele in the 34th minute.

The Magi scored once more in the first half of play, with Matthew Wistisen shooting the ball into the back of the net and Steele securing his second assist of the night in the 38th minute of play.

The Magi led 3-1 at half time, but they were able to secure an additional goal before the end of the second half.

Ethan Hanson scored a goal for the Magi in the 63rd minute of play with an assist by Hoewt to close out the game.

The Magi walked away with a 4-1 victory and their first win of the season.

The Magi will stay at home for their next game, hosting the WDA’s current leading Minot North Sentinels on Tuesday, August 25.
