The Minot High Magicians and the Minot North Sentinels met for the first time this season at Duane Carlson Stadium on Tuesday night, August 25. Both teams walked onto the pitch unbeaten so far this season, but only one walked out that way.
The game was slow going at first, but once sophomore Carson Fiske scored the first goal of the game in the 6th minute of play for Minot High, both teams were off to the races.
The rest of the Magi took Fiske's momentum through the next few minutes of play.
Senior Nolan Schmidt was the next to score for the Magi, netting the ball with an assist from senior Dylan Oswalt in the 11th minute.
Fiske scored his second goal of the evening unassisted in the 13th minute and junior Grayson Steele brought the Magi to a 4-0 lead with his goal in the 17th minute with an assist from senior Ethan Hanson.
Far from beaten, the Minot North Sentinels soon responded with a goal of their own.
Junior Jayden Marshall put the Sentinels on the board with his goal in the 21st minute.
Senior Tayson Solper brought the match back to a four goal difference with his goal for the Magi late into the first half at the 33rd minute.
The Sentinels scored two near back to back goals in the 35th and 37th minutes of play, being netted by senior Logan Ovitt and sophomore Jace Hoaglund respectively to close out the first half of play.
The Magi led the Sentinels 5-3 at half time.
Despite the heavily offense first half, the second half was all defense.
Both teams expertly kept the other's offense at bay, preventing a single goal from being scored in the second half of play.
The game ended with Minot High maintaining their unbeaten status thus far this season, while the Sentinels took home their first loss.
The Sentinels will return home for their next game, taking on the Century High School Patriots on Thursday, August 27.
The Magi will head back on the road for their next game, facing off against the Legacy Sabers on the same day.
