Tots close out two game series against Big Sticks

The Minot Hot Tots and the Badlands Big Sticks faced off for their Battle of the Badlands rivalry for the last time this season as they two game series came to an end on Monday night, July 27.
Kicking off their second to last week of regular season play this past Sunday, July 26, with a 6-8 loss to the Big Sticks, Minot entered Monday night’s game looking to close with a split series.
The second play off spot for the Northwoods League Great Plains West Division is still up for grabs heading into the last few weeks of play, so every win counts for the Hot Tots if they hope to continue playing after they take on the St. Cloud Rox on Saturday, Aug. 8.
On Monday night, it seemed like the Hot Tots quickly settled into a groove.
The Big Sticks were the first to put runs on the board with a quick two point lead in the top of the first inning, but the Hot Tots quickly responded in the bottom of the same inning, putting three runners across the plate thanks to a three run RBI double by Tyler Arnold into left field.
The Hot Tots kept the pressure up behind the plate, scoring another three runs in the bottom of the third and four runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a grand slam home run by Kole Dudding.
The Hot Tots scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning, totaling them at 11 for the game. The Big Sticks were only able to acculumate a single run at a time through multiple innings, eventually working their way up to six at the top of the seventh inning at deadline.
The Hot Tots will be right back on the field on Tuesday, July 28, as they take on the Willmar Stingers in a pair of away games. The Stingers are currently leading the Great Plains West Division for the second half of the season with their record of 15 wins seven losses.
