Minot Public Schools has named Jesse Roberts as the next head girls basketball coach for Minot North High School. Roberts becomes just the second head coach in the program's four-year history and will lead the next phase of its continued growth, according to information from MPS.
Roberts brings several years of coaching experience within the district, having served multiple roles since 2019. He began as an assistant coach for the Minot High Basketball Camps, before moving into sophomore coach for one year, and was later promoted to junior varsity coach and assistant coach under head coach Jason Schwarz, a position in which he has served for the past six seasons.
Most recently, Roberts was part of the coaching staff that led the Majettes to the 2026 North Dakota High School Activities Association Class AA Girls Basketball State Championship.
"As a young program, Minot North girls basketball has tremendous potential, and we believe Jesse is the right person to help lead its next chapter," said Dr. Scott Faul, MPS superintendent. "His experience, passion for the game, and vision for building a strong program will make him an excellent fit. We are excited to see the foundation he will continue to build."
"I'm honored to have the opportunity to lead the Sentinels girls basketball team," Roberts said. "I am excited to build meaningful relationships with our players, establish a competitive culture and continue growing a program our students and community can be proud of."
A graduate of Minot High School, Roberts was a three-sport athlete in basketball, soccer, and baseball. During his basketball career with the Magicians, he helped lead the program to two state championships. Roberts also played basketball for Bismarck State College and Minot State University. He earned a bachelor's degree in corporate fitness and wellness management from Minot State University.
