Honeybees enter final week with Habaneros split

The Honeybees and the rest of the Northwoods League softball teams began their final week of regular season competition on Sunday, July 26.

With the start of the final week, the Minot Honeybees resumed their series against the Mankato Habaneros with a split double header.

The Honeybees and the Habaneros last played on Thursday, July 23, with Makato taking home the win at 5-8.

Sundays first game went much the same way for the Habaneros.

The Honeybees took to the scoreboard first, giving themselves a 2-0 lead after the first three innings of play.

The Honeybees kept their lead to 3-2 through the top of the fifth inning, but the Habaneros scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to put them over the top at 3-4.

The Honeybees were unable to respond through the rest of the game, giving the Habaneros the win.

The second game was much stronger for the Honeybees.

The Honeybees sent three players across the plate during three at bats in the top of the first inning. They then scored nine additional runs in the top of the second inning, including a grand slam home run by Sara Simon.

The Honeybees kept the Habaneros away from home plate through the entirety of the second game and earned an additional two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The game ended after the conclusion of the fifth inning with a 14-0 shut out for the Honeybees over he Habaneros.

The Honeybees will close out their series against Mankato in Mankato on Monday, July 27.
