Honeybees and Habaneros split games at Corbett

The Minot Honeybees split a pair of games against the Mankato Habaneros in their home double header on Thursday, July 23.
The first game of the afternoon started off slow for both teams, with Honeybees pitcher Parker Rowden seeing just 12 Mankato batters in her first three innings in the pitcher’s circle.
The first runs of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cayden Thomas drove in two runs for the Honeybees, bringing Alex Serbio and Bridget Chapman across home plate with a single into center field.
Rowden and the rest of the Honeybees defense kept the Habaneros off the bases, including sending Mankato three up and down in the top of the fifth and seventh innings.
The Honeybees widened their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth, with Alex Serbio launching an RBI triple into center field and Chapman earning her second RBI with a single into right field.
Serbio closed out the Honeybees’ scoring run in the bottom of the sixth with another RBI, ending the game before the bottom of the seventh with a 5-0 shut out victory for Minot.
The second game of the evening started with a large and early lead for the Habaneros.
Mankato earned five runs in just the top of the first inning alone, giving them a wide lead heading into the rest of the game.
The Mankato defense kept the Honeybees off the score board clear to the bottom of the third inning when Ashleigh Heiderscheit found her way across home plate thanks to an RBI single by Clare Rettler to center field.
The Habaneros widened their lead to 8-1 in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, earning one run in each.
The Honeybees mounted the beginnings of a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs off of three RBIs before the Habaneros shut them down with a final ground out.
The Honeybees were unable to score again in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Habaneros the win at a final score of 8-5.
The Honeybees will return to the field on Sunday, July 26, to take on the Mankato Habaneros in Mankato to begin their last week of competition.
The Honeybees will have their last home game of the season against the Grand Forks Spitfires on Wednesday, July 29.
