Legion Baseball: Double digit strike outs give Metros edge over Mandan

The Minot Metros eked out a victory over the Mandan A’s 2-1 thanks in no small part to the 11 total strike outs earned by pitchers Cole Deaver and Carter Bush on Monday, June 22.

Deaver was first on the mound for the Metros and sent the A’s three up and down in the top of the first inning, including earning two strike outs.

He earned another strike out for the Metros in the top of the second inning and struck out three of the four batters he say in the top of the third.

Bush took over the mound part way into the top of the fourth inning and earned five strike outs of his own before the game came to a close in the top of the seventh inning.

The Metros allowed the A’s just one run in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI grounder to third base.

Deaver and Bush allowed just one hit through the entirety of Monday’s game with a double in the sixth inning.

The Metros first put themselves on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Owen Sundahl was able to steal home. The Metros earned their second and final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Carter Bush grounded out to first base, allowing Garrett Nikitenko to score home.

The Metros finished the game with a 2-1 victory with Carter Bush taking the win for his record.

The Metros’ victory on Monday is their fourth in a row. They are scheduled to take on the Dickinson Volunteers next on Thursday, June 25.
