It was a quick turnaround for the Minot Honeybees, as they weren’t afforded a travel day in between their series finale against La Crosse and their series opener against Wausau the following night.

The 150-mile trip across Wisconsin cooled off Minot’s offense, as the Honeybees fell 10-2 to the Ignite on Wednesday, June 17. The Honeybees were coming off a two-game sweep of La Crosse.

Wausau (2-5) scored eight unanswered runs to break a 2-2 tie, plating four in the third and another four in the fifth.

Minot fell behind 2-0 after the first inning, but came back with two runs in the third to knot the game. Sara Simon continued her strong start to the season with an RBI double to right field to bring in Clare Rettler. Olivia Hernandez tied the game with a sac fly, scoring Alex Serbio.

The Honeybees (3-5) recorded just two hits over the final four innings.

The Ignite reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the third with their first of two four-run innings. Marley Teasley led off with a home run to left. Riley Schwisow doubled home two and came around to score on a double off the bat of Gabriela Sosa.

A two-run triple in the fifth by Sydney Spear pushed Wausau’s lead to 8-2. Mia Buske and Teasley hit back-to-back doubles to bring in two more runs.

Rettler and Simon each collected a pair of hits. Simon doubled twice and drove in a run. Rettler doubled and scored a run.

Teasley and Claire Calmes each homered, had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice.

Starting at $3.75/week.
