Prep Softball: Majettes No. 9 seed following sweep by Patriots
The Minot High softball team won’t have to wait long to attempt to avenge its doubleheader sweep at the hands of Bismarck Century on Tuesday, May 12.
The Majettes and Patriots will meet once again on Monday, May 18, in Bismarck for a WDA Tournament play-in game at 2:30 p.m. Century earned home field by knocking off Minot High 11-5 and 17-4 in the regular-season finale to secure the No. 8 seed. The Majettes will be the No. 9 seed.
The Majettes (10-17 overall, 5-15 WDA) scored all five of their runs in the opener over the first two innings. Grace Burdick led off the game with a single and would eventually score on a wild pitch. McKenna Nygaard drove in Darby Mowbray with an RBI single to center for a 2-0 lead.
Minot High plated three runs in the third for a 5-1 advantage. Burdick delivered a two-run double with the bases loaded and Daysi Alm drove in Emalyn Van Winkle with a ground out to third.
The Patriots (6-16, 6-12) scored the final 10 runs of the game, grabbing a 6-5 lead in the fourth with an RBI double off the bat of Century’s Olivia Charles. Century added five runs in the fifth for some cushion. Jayda Pudwill and Haley Dockter both plated runs with hits with the bases loaded.
Ainsley Wesson hit a solo home run in the third for the Patriots. Rachel Schumacher, Dockter, Charles, Carsen Weisenberger and Reese Dutchak all had two hits.
Burdick, Nygaard, Bella Conklin and Fisher Anderson all collected two hits for the Majettes.
The Patriots carried over the momentum into the finale, plating 13 runs over the first two innings. Maya Ressler hit a three-run home run to punctuate a 10-run second inning. Century recorded seven hits in the frame and brought 14 batters to the plate.
Hadley Frame finished 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs. Belle Winandy and Ressler each drove in three runs.
Mowbray connected on a three-run home run to center field in the fifth. Burdick finished with a pair of doubles and scored a run.
