The Minot High baseball team scored 11 runs over the final three innings, including an eight spot in the sixth to complete a late rally against West Fargo Horace, 11-9, in a non-conference contest at Corbett Field on Saturday, May 9.

Brody Johnson finished 3-for-4 with two triples, four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Magicians’ offensive surge. Minot High had three hits over the first three innings before compiling eight over its final three at-bats.

Minot High trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the sixth. The Magicians sent 12 batters to the plate, recording four hits, four walks and a hit batter. The first seven batters reached base safely and the Magicians took a 7-6 lead before the Hawks recorded their first out of the inning.

Johnson led off the inning with his first triple of the frame and scored on an RBI single from Grady Wepler. Minot High loaded the bases on a walk to Cole Deaver and a single by Remington Anderson. Back-to-back walks and a hit batter plated three more runs. Johnson cleared the bases with his second triple of the inning, sending a 0-1 pitch to right with two outs to give Minot High a 10-6 lead. Johnson would score on a passed ball.

Horace (21-3) made one final charge in the top of the seventh. The Hawks loaded the bases with no outs and scored a run on a wild pitch. After a walk reloaded the bases, Rylan Schaan came in to pitch. A wild pitch cut Minot High’s lead to 11-9, but Schaan struck out Matthew Dick and Parker Connell and got Cooper Fuchs to fly out to left field to end the game.

The Magicians (12-9) yielded the first four runs of the game, trailing 4-0 after three innings. The Hawks led off the game with back-to-back doubles off the bats of Cason Borchardt and Jett Collins for a 1-0 lead after one.

Johnson got Minot High on the board in the fourth, driving in Tegan Schindler with a single to center. Brock Thompson drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth and Owen Sundahl plated Oliver Deschamp on a groundout to first to pull the Magicians to within 4-3.

The Hawks reclaimed a three-run lead the following inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Parker Connell and Gavin Bjur.

Anderson, Schindler and Wepler all registered two hits for Minot High. Eight different Magicians scored a run.

Bjur led the Hawks with a 2-for-3 performance.
