Prep Baseball: Magicians pitch shutout in opener, split with Williston
Drew Jordan went six scoreless innings to help lead the Minot High baseball team to a 3-0 victory over Williston in the first game of a doubleheader against Williston on Thursday, May 7 at Corbett Field. The Coyotes won the finale, 11-9, for a series split.
The Minot High pitching staff held the Coyotes to four hits in the opener. Jordan allowed three hits, striking out six and walking four. Williston put runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth, but Jordan ended his day on the mound by getting Xzavier Klumker to line out to Peyton House at first.
Brody Johnson pitched the seventh and earned the save, striking out two.
The Magicians got on the board in the second inning off a solo home run from Tegan Schindler. House drove in two in the fourth with a triple to right.
The Coyotes avoided the sweep with a six-run seventh in the finale, rallying from a 9-5 deficit with just three outs to work with. Eden Mortenson led off the inning with a solo home run. Ashton Nickoloff followed with a double and scored on a triple from Kalton DeLorme. DeLorme scored on a wild pitch and Dylan Pittsley tied the game 9-9 with a single to center. Klumker scored on an error and Jaxon Jeannotte drove in Dylan Pittsley on an RBI single to left to complete the comeback.
The Magicians trailed 3-0 after the first inning, but scored the next six runs over four innings to take the lead. They tied the game when Oliver Deschamp cleared the bases with a single to left along with a Williston throwing error on the play. House and Remington Anderson delivered RBIs in the fifth.
Deschamp led Minot High with a 3-for-4 performance, driving in two runs. Brock Thompson and Jordan had two hits each.
Klumer finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Ashton Nickoloff collected two doubles and had two RBIs and two runs scored.
Minot High hosts a non-conference game against West Fargo Horace on Saturday, May 9, at Corbett Field at 1 p.m.
