Majettes move closer to state tournament berth with win over Century

The Minot High girls soccer team netted four goals in the first half with two coming off the leg of Kaylee Jackson, as the Majettes posted a 5-0 victory over Bismarck Century on Thursday, May 7, at Duane Carlson Stadium.

With the victory, the Majettes moved 12 points clear of the Patriots, who currently sit in fifth place in the WDA standings. Minot High needs to win just one of its remaining five matches to punch a ticket to the state tournament.

The Majettes (8-2-1 overall, 8-2-1 WDA) struck right away, scoring in the fifth minute. Jackson dribbled the ball to the front of the net before leaving a pass for Jayva McKibben, who buried the shot past Century goalkeeper Jocelyn Haider.

Ayla Gilstad pushed Minot High’s lead to 2-0, fighting off a defender in front after receiving a pass from McKibben in the 21st minute. Jackson followed with a pair of goals eight minutes apart. Her first came in the 24th minute, dribbling the ball down the far side, dekeing a Century defender and finding the back of the net. Jackson scored again in the 32nd minute from 15 yards out as the Majettes took a 4-0 lead into the locker room.

Ainslee McKibben scored the lone goal in the second half off a long pass from Cayley Gibbons. Ainslee McKibben juked Haider in front for a clear shooting lane to cap off the scoring.

The Majettes held a 16-3 edge in shots on goal.

Haider finished with 11 saves and Minot High goalkeeper Kynsli Gillmore stopped all three shots she faced for her sixth shutout of the year.

The Majettes host Bismarck St. Mary’s on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Duane Carlson Stadium.

Starting at $2.99/week.
