Girls Tennis: Sentinels drop match to Legacy 8-1
Addy Clark delivered a victory at No. 1 singles for the Minot North girls tennis team, but Bismarck Legacy won the other five singles matches and swept doubles for an 8-1 victory over the Sentinels on Thursday, April 30, at Sanford Sports Complex.
Clark took part in two of the three matches that required a third set. She earned her second consecutive singles victory by rallying past Joya Martian. Clark dropped the opening set, but rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Her doubles match alongside Kate Weishaar also required a comeback to force a third-set tiebreaker. After dropping the opening set 3-6, Clark and Weishaar fought back to take the second set 6-3. But the tiebreaker and match went to Ava Flemmer and Calista Hosek, winning 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Minot North’s Braxtyn Bennett also found herself in a pair of close matches. She dropped a three-set decision against Danica Grossman, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, and nearly got to a third set with Julia Stoner in a 6-4, 7-6 (5) loss to Martian and Zoe Flemmer.
The Sabers (7-3 overall, 4-1 WDA) won the other four singles matches and third doubles match in straight sets. Hosek, Ava Flemmer, Anna Martian, Grossman and Zoe Flemmer all picked up singles and doubles victories.
Minot North (3-5, 2-4) travels to play Jamestown on Tuesday, May 5, at 4 p.m.
