Girls Soccer: Sentinels earns first state tournament berth with rout of Saints
On Senior Night, the Minot North girls soccer team gave their longest-tenured teammates the perfect gift in their final match at Sentinel Stadium: a trip to the state tournament.
The Sentinels secured their spot in the state tournament for the first time in just their second season as a varsity program with an 8-0 victory against Bismarck St. Mary’s on Tuesday, May 19. The win, coupled with Bismarck Century’s loss to Jamestown, locked the Sentinels into one of the top four spots.
Minot North (9-5-1 overall, 9-5-1 WDA) netted five goals in the first 40 minutes before adding three more in the second half for its second-highest scoring output of the season. Kohlee Roberts, Julia Lewis and Brengiel Lonning all had two goals. All three also assisted on a goal.
Morgan Orth finished with a goal and two assists. Anistyn Perrin had a goal and an assist. Eight players registered a point in the match.
The Sentinels held a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal. Camryn Guy and Jordyn Walsh shared time in net for Minot North, both finishing with two saves. Aayla Stewart made eight saves for the Saints (4-11, 4-11).
The win snapped Minot North’s three-match losing streak.
Minot North and Jamestown both have one match remaining and are currently tied for third in the standings with 28 points. The Sentinels hold the tiebreaker with a 6-5 edge in goals scored in head-to-head competition. Minot North can secure the No. 3 seed with a win at Bismarck Legacy on Thursday, May 21. Jamestown still has a rescheduled game remaining against Williston.
