Girls Soccer: Sentinels clinch No. 3 seed with win over Legacy

The Minot North girls soccer team had the opportunity to secure the West Region’s No. 3 seed and make its path at the state tournament a bit friendlier, and the Sentinels did just that.

In their final game before the state tournament next week, the Sentinels scored four goals in the second half to break a halftime stalemate, defeating Bismarck Legacy, 5-2, on Thursday, May 21, at Sanford Sports Complex. Morgan Orth and Julia Lewis netted a pair of goals each as Minot North locked itself into the No. 3 spot.

Orth opened the scoring with her first of two goals, putting the Sentinels (10-5-1 overall, 10-5-1 WDA) in front in the 22nd minute off a feed from Brengiei Lonning.

The Sabers (4-9-2, 4-8-2) squared the match before the end of the half. Taylor Seifert drew the Sabers even in the 32nd minute. Lily Healy was credited with the assist. Healy gave Legacy a 2-1 advantage in the 47th minute.

Minot North responded with four unanswered goals. Lewis tied the match a minute later in the 48th minute and Anistyn Perrin put the Sentinels in front once again in the 72nd minute.

Lewis converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute for her second goal and Orth followed with her second in the 77th minute.

The Sentinels held a 14-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Camryn Guy finished with four saves for the Sentinels. Berlynn Felchle made nine stops in net for the Sabers.

Minot North will play Grand Forks Red River in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, May 28, at 2:15 p.m. at Sanford Sports Complex.
