Boys Track & Field: Sentinels win 3 events, take 3rd at Mandan Meet

Jayce Wendt, Ethan Howey and Cameron Jesz all took home the top spot in their respective events, helping guide the Minot North boys track & field team to a third-place finish at the Mandan Invite at Starion Sports Complex on Thursday, April 30.

The Sentinels finished with 79 points. Bismarck Century dominated the competition, running away with the meet with 205.5 points. Mandan was second with 92 points, followed by Bismarck High (78.5) and Bismarck Legacy (61.5) to round out the top five.

Wendt claimed the 400-meter relay with a time of 53.13 seconds. He was the lone victor for the Sentinels on the track, but Cian Hannon finished runner-up to Century’s Xander Hanson in the 200m and took fourth in the 100m. Hannon ran a 22.86 in the 200m and a 10.97 in the 100m.

The Sentinels’ 4×200 relay team of Hannon, Aaron Garza, Gavin Tobey and Jesz were second with a time of 1:32.30. They finished just behind Mandan, who finished in 1:31.28.

In the field events, Howey put up a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 6 inches to win the event. Jesz recorded a jump of 5-10 in the high jump for the title and took second with a personal record distance of 22-4 in the long jump.

The Patriots won a meet-high eight events. The Braves won three events, while Dickinson and Williston each won two.
