Boys Golf: Magicians win St. Mary’s Invitational for sixth tournament title this season

After a difficult outing in Rolla its last time on the golf course, the Minot High boys golf team bounced back to capture the St. Mary’s Invitational at Hawktree Golf Club in Bismarck on Tuesday, May 5.

The Magicians shot a collective 318 to win the event by four strokes over Williston. Tournament-host St. Mary’s finished third with a score of 329, followed by Minot North with a 331. Mandan rounded out the top five with a 332. Twelve teams competed in the tournament.

Minot High was coming off a sixth-place finish at the Turtle Mountain Invite over the weekend, carding a season-worst 344. The Magicians put that performance in the rear-view mirror as their top four scorers finished in the top eight on Tuesday. Parker Argent tied for third with a 77, recording three birdies on his round.

Tripp Toepfer placed seventh with a 79. The sophomore birdied a pair of holes and had 10 pars. Right behind him were Nathan Peterson and Easton Bradley, who both shot 81s to tie for eighth. Peterson birdied the par-5 seventh and Bradley made eagle on the same hole.

Mandan’s Jacob Walch earned medalist honors with a 3-over 75, winning the tournament by a single stroke over Williston’s Evan Fisher. Walch birdied two of the final three holes on the front nine and made par on eight holes on the back nine. Fisher had 15 pars during his round.

The Sentinels were led by Kyler Weishaar, who finished tied for third with Argent with a 77. He made birdie on three of his final five holes and finished with four birdies in total.

Minot North will play host to the rest of the West Region during the Minot North Invite at Vardon Golf Course on Friday, May 8, at 10 a.m.
