Beavers’ Paige Kellogg, Sara Van Wickler, Kierra Fournier earn All-NSIC honors

Following the best season in more than a decade, a trio of Beaver softball players collected All-NSIC honors as announced by the league on Tuesday.

The league’s coaches voted and honored senior infielder Paige Kellogg, who was named to the All-NSIC 1st Team for her performance on the diamond this spring, as well as to the NSIC All-Defensive Team at second base, senior outfielder Sara Van Wickler, who was named All-NSIC 2nd Team for her play, and senior pitcher Kierra Fournier, who was named the league’s lone pitcher on the NSIC All-Defensive Team.

The trio of seniors helped lead the way for Minot State (33-21 overall, 18-12 NSIC), which finished tied for 6th in the league standings and won the most games since the 2013 season.

The Beavers open play in the single-elimination NSIC Softball Tournament on Wednesday against Minnesota Duluth in the first round.

Kellogg, a senior from Las Vegas, Nevada, who played in 20 games at first base and 22 at second base this season for Minot State, collected 193 putouts with 41 assists with a 97.9 fielding percentage in 43 total games in earning NSIC All-Defensive Team honors.

Offensively, she led the way for Minot State with a .409 batting average (52-of-127) with 6 doubles, 1 triple, and team-highs of 5 home runs and 32 RBIs. She also stole 2 bases.

Van Wickler, a senior from Scottsdale, Arizona, played in 50 games for Minot State and was second on the team with a .358 batting average (53-of-148) with team-highs of 13 doubles, 43 runs scored, 32 RBIs, 16 stolen bases, and 9 triples, which tied a single-season school record. She also hit 4 home runs, and defensively, she had 79 putouts with 5 assists from the outfield, and just 1 error all season for a 98.8 fielding percentage.

A senior right-handed pitcher from Victoria, British Columbia, Fournier had a 93.0 fielding percentage for the Beavers with 2 putouts and 38 assists, fielding her position.

In the circle in 24 appearances, including 21 starts, she racked up 10 wins, which was second most on the team, with a 3.66 ERA in 109 innings with 77 strikeouts.
