The Minot State baseball team came into their first NSIC Tournament since 2023 winning 13 of their last 15 games, but the momentum from their hot streak wasn’t enough to carry them to a round one victory.
The Beavers traveled to Sioux Falls, SD for the first round of their tournament on Wednesday, May 6, as the seventh seed. They were scheduled to face off against the second-seeded Minnesota State University, Mankato beginning at 6 p.m., and the Mavericks were quick to put runs on the board.
The Mavericks scored two on a two run RBI in the bottom of the first inning, then scored one additional run in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth.
Both teams stayed scoreless in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but the Mavericks ended the night with four additional runs in the bottom of the eighth.
With the beavers unable to secure a run though all nine innings, the Mavericks took home the victory in round one of the NSIC Tournament with a 9-0 score.
With the Beavers losing their first round, they move on to their elimination round to take on their in state rivals, the University of Mary Marauders. The two will face off beginning at noon on Thursday, May 7.
