A determined group of Minot State competitors turned in some strong performances on Friday on the opening day of action for the Beavers at the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Minnesota Duluth.

Sophomore jumper Brayan Augustin scored the first points of the weekend for the Minot State men as he was 6th in the long jump, while junior Bailey Wride put herself in position to score for the Minot State women as she raced into the finals of the women’s 800 meters.

Wride competes in the 800-meter final on Saturday when the NSIC Championships conclude.

Several other Minot State student-athletes will also be in action Saturday, including Augustin, who will be part of the Beaver men’s 4×100-meter relay along with teammates Alex Roberts, Tyson Ruzicka, and Justin Williams.

Friday, competing in the long jump, Augustin turned in a top leap of 23 feet, 8 inches to finish 6th, earning the Minot State men’s team 3 points.

The Beavers are 12th in the men’s team standings thanks to Augustin’s efforts.

The women have not scored, yet, but looked poised to do so thanks to Wride, who clocked a time of 2 minutes, 15.73 seconds in the women’s 800-meter preliminaries, earning the eighth and final spot in today’s finals. The top 8 finishers in each event score team points for their school.

While Augustin and Wride led the way, other top performers on Friday were Justin Williams, who finished 11th in the men’s 200 prelims with a career-best time of 21.73, and Peyton Tuhy, who led the Beaver men’s 800 runners, turning in the 8th-fastest qualifying time of 1:54.99, but missing out on the finals as he was 3rd in his heat. The top two in each of 3 heats and the next two fastest times advanced; Tuhy’s time was 3rd fastest among the non-automatic qualifiers.

Holter Bridwell had the top time for the Minot State men in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing 12th in 10:04.96, while Julie Folk led the Beaver women in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing 23rd in 12:27.36.

And Jake Jenkins finished 17th in the men’s 10,000 meters in 33:25.06 for Minot State, Kyra Beckman was 18th in the women’s high jump, clearing 4-10.5, Ethan Graham was 17th in the men’s shot put with a throw of 48-2.5, and Kaiya Chell was 25th in the women’s shot put with a mark of 35-5.75.
