Prep Softball: Defending champion Williston sweeps Majettes

The Minot High softball team was held to one run on two hits in a pair of losses to defending state champion Williston on Tuesday, April 21, at Williston State College. The Coyotes no-hit the Majettes in the nightcap.

The Coyotes needed just three innings to end the opener, scoring 20 runs on 13 hits in a 20-0 victory. They followed that performance with a 21-1 victory in the finale. Williston had 33 hits over the two games.

Williston (11-0 overall, 8-0 WDA) put up five runs in the first, seven in the second and eight in the third to reach the mercy rule threshold in Game 1. Eight Coyotes recorded at least one RBI and a run scored. Julie Heller was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Rylee Irgens tripled and registered two RBIs. Alana Thomas, Alli Wilcox and Chloee Stundal also collected extra-base hits.

McKenna Nygaard had a double as one of two hits for the Majettes (6-8, 2-8). Daysi Alm had the other.

Thomas struck out seven over three innings for the win in the circle.

The Coyotes picked right back up in the nightcap, plating 11 runs in the opening frame. They recorded eight hits and drew three walks. Akayla Slagle, Irgens, Wilcox and Chloee Stundal all doubled in the frame. The Coyotes had eight extra-base hits.

Wilcox was 5-for-5 with four doubles, seven RBIs and four runs scored. Slagle, Kyah Stundal and Chloee Stundal all drove in three runs. The Coyotes scored at least two runs in all four innings.

Mekiah Klumker and Averi Austreim combined to toss a no-hitter. The Majettes drew eight walks and scored a run in the fourth on one of two errors by Williston.

Minot High hosts Watford City for a doubleheader on Monday, April 27, at Scheels Complex beginning at 4:30 p.m.
