Prep Softball: Bismarck Legacy wins pair of slugfests against Sentinels

The Bismarck Legacy softball team scored at least a run in 9 of 12 innings during its doubleheader sweep of Minot North on Tuesday, April 14. The Sabers won the opener, 11-8, before claiming the finale, 16-6.

The Sentinels held a 7-4 lead through four innings in Game 1 before the Sabers scored seven runs over their final two at-bats to complete the comeback. Kate Coleman led the Sentinels with a 3-for-4 game, roping two doubles, driving in four runs and scoring two herself. Tiecyn Hertz also collected three hits, including one double, and scored three runs. Aven Kelly, Mya Bagwell and Eliese McCann each registered an RBI.

The Sabers took advantage of three Minot North errors in the fifth inning to take an 8-7 lead as part of a five-run frame. Back-to-back errors brought Legacy to within one before tying the game on a Camille Neigum sacrifice fly to score Rawling Borseth. The Sabers grabbed the lead following the third error of the inning.

After Minot North tied the game in the top of the sixth with an RBI double from Coleman, Legacy reclaimed the lead in the bottom half with three runs. Borseth turned a single to right field in a trip around the bases thanks to a throwing error. Rawni Roemmich and Bransyn Tift scored on the play and Borseth came around to score after a throw to second went into the outfield.

The Sentinels committed five errors in the opener.

Paisley Lessard went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Sabers. Borseth drove in three and scored twice.

The Sabers used an eight-run third inning in the nightcap to complete the sweep. Minot North opened the third inning with a trio of runs after leading off with three singles and a double. Hertz plated two with her double and Coleman tied the game with an RBI single. Legacy responded in the bottom half, plating runs via walks, a fielder’s choice, a fly out and a two-run triple off the bat of Borseth. Legacy scored at least a run in each of the final five innings.

Kelly and Coleman each collected two hits to lead the Sentinels. Kelly drove in two and scored two more and Coleman registered an RBI and a run scored. Cole Kotaska also drove in a run.

Roemmich finished 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Minot North travels to Watford City on Tuesday, April 21, at 4:30 p.m.
