Prep Baseball: Sentinels drop doubleheader to Demons

Bismarck High scored late to win the opener and did the same in the nightcap to sweep a doubleheader from the Minot North baseball team on Tuesday, April 28, at Haaland Field.

The Demons scored all seven runs in their final two at-bats in Game 1 for a 7-1 victory and plated three runs in the fifth to break a tie game in the finale to complete the sweep, 7-5.

The Sentinels (8-6 overall, 6-6 WDA) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the opener on an RBI single from Jace Price to center field, allowing Mason Stewart to score.

Price went 2-for-3, as did Gannon Hedberg for four of the team’s five hits.

Bismarck High (14-4, 9-3) took the lead with a four-run fifth. The first four batters all singled and Cooper Christensen brought in two runs during that stretch. Drew Taylor and Gage Gronberg also delivered RBI singles during the inning.

All six of Bismarck High’s hits came in the fifth inning, as they had only two baserunners via walks through the first four innings.

The Demons didn’t record a hit in the sixth, but added two more runs thanks to two walks, a hit by pitch, a sacrifice bunt and a two-run error.

Gage Gronberg earned the win on the mound for the Demons, allowing one run on five hits over six innings. He stuck out six and walked three.

The Sentinels rallied in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the fourth to erase a three-run deficit. Tate Haugenoe recorded an RBI groundout, Mason Stewart delivered an RBI double and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brody Mueller.

The Demons responded with three runs in the fifth to reclaim a 7-4 lead, scoring on a fielder’s choice, a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch.

Minot North scratched across one run in the seventh on a two-out single by Levi Balas.

Mueller, Hedberg and Brady Vigested all collected two hits for the Sentinels, who finished with 11 for the game.

Drew Taylor was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored for the Demons.

Minot North plays Minot High in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 30, at Corbett Field beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
