Prep Baseball: Minot North takes opener, drops finale against Dickinson

The Minot North baseball team used up all of its offensive fire power in the opener, leaving nothing left in the finale as the Sentinels split a doubleheader with Dickinson on Tuesday, April 14, at Corbett Field.

The Sentinels collected eight hits and drew five walks in a 9-3 victory in Game 1, before being limited to one run on four hits in the nightcap, falling 11-1 in six innings.

After surrendering two runs in the first inning, the Sentinels scored six unanswered runs over the second and third frames in the opener. Brody Mueller singled home Tate Haugenoe and Mason Stewart in the second to tie the game. In the third, Landyn McGhee, Brady Vigested and Ty Iverson all recorded RBIs.

The Sentinels added two more in the fifth on an RBI triple by Stewart and an RBI groundout by Mueller and a ninth run in the sixth off the bat of Vigested, who singled home Logan Dixon.

Mueller, Stewart and McGhee all had two hits.

Kayden Danielson earned the win on the mound for Minot North, tossing 6 innings. He allowed three runs on six hits, striking out four and walking four.

The Sentinels struck for a run in the bottom of the first in the finale, as McGhee singled home Stewart with a hard ground ball to left. That was all the Sentinels could muster despite putting 13 runners on base. Minot North drew eight walks and got hit by a pitch.

Mueller, McGhee, Haugenoe and Gannon Hedberg each collected a hit. Hedberg had the lone extra-base hit for the Sentinels – a double to lead off the fifth.

The Mavericks scored a run in the first, two in the second, one each in the fourth and fifth, before putting up a six spot in the sixth to break the game open. Dickinson recorded five hits, drew three walks and got hit by a pitch in the sixth.

Kyler Kudrna finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Liam Raab and Josh Spillman each had two hits and two RBIs.

Kudrna got the win in relief, pitching the final four innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven.
