Prep Baseball: Mandan limits Magicians to 1 run in sweep

One run was all the Minot High baseball team could muster in 14 innings, as Mandan held the Magicians to seven total hits in a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday, April 28, at Corbett Field.

The Braves won the opener, 6-1, before completing the sweep with a 4-0 win in the nightcap.

Minot High’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth in Game 1 when pinch-runner Carter Bush scored on a passed ball with two outs during an at-bat by Tegan Schindler.

The Braves (10-7 overall, 8-6 WDA) took a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo home run off the bat of Jack Tooke and added three more in the fourth on RBI singles from Ty Weiler, Aaden Pfliger and Liam Keller. Weiler collected his second RBI of the game in the fifth on a single to center, scoring Troy Gerhardt.

Tooke and Weiler combined to go 4-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Oliver Deschamp led Minot High (8-6, 7-5) with two hits.

Miken Brahos earned the win on the mound for Mandan, tossing six innings of 5-hit ball. He allowed one run, striking out seven and walking two.

The nightcap was a pitcher’s duel early, as neither team put up a run over the first three innings. Mandan broke through in the fourth with an RBI ground out by Pfliger to score Tooke.

A sacrifice bunt from Weiler allowed Gerhardt to score in the sixth and Pfliger brought home Tooke with an RBI single to second base.

The Magicians had just two hits. Gavin King led off the second inning with a single to center field, and Remington Anderson singled to left with two outs in the third.

Weiler went the distance, striking out nine and walking one for the win. Brody Johnson got the start for the Magicians and went 5 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on four hits, striking out two and walking two.

Minot High plays Minot North in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 30, at Corbett Field beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
