Prep Baseball: Magicians sweep doubleheader against Demons
The Minot High baseball team outslugged Bismarck High, 15-13, in the opener and won a pitcher’s duel in the nightcap, 5-2, for a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday, April 21, at Sanford Sports Complex.
Trailing 13-12 heading into their final at-bat, the Magicians scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held the Demons off the board for the first time in the bottom half to complete the comeback. Minot High scored three runs in each of the final four innings and recorded 13 hits.
The Magicians (6-4 overall, 5-3 WDA) took advantage of seven Bismarck High errors. They scored seven unearned runs.
Owen Meyer led Minot High with three hits, going 3-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Gavin King had a team-high three RBIs. Remington Anderson also tripled and Oliver Deschamp and Peyton House both doubled. Eight Magicians collected at least one hit.
Garett Randolph and Gage Gronberg homered for the Demons (9-3, 5-3). Both drove in three runs and scored twice. Aidan Rakowski went 2-for-4 with a triple, double, four RBIs and two runs.
The Magicians only had four hits in the nightcap, but scratched across five runs with four walks and three more errors by the Demons. Anderson tripled and scored twice. Drew Jordan and Deschamp recorded RBIs.
House struck out 10 batters over six innings, allowing two runs on six hits to earn the win.
