Pitching duel ends in 12th inning Sentinel win

The Minot North Sentinels and the Legacy High School Sabers faced off in a tough defensive duel during the first game of their double header at Corbett Field on Tuesday, Apr. 21, that ended with a Sentinel victory in the twelfth inning of play.
Minot North junior Kayden Danielson kicked off Tuesday’s game on the mound, seeing just three of the Sabers’ batters in the bottom of he first, including earning his first strike out of the night.
Neither team saw any scoring plays through the first eight innings of play. After his eighth inning on the mound, Danielson was replaced after he earned a total of nine strike outs for the Sentinels. In the top of the ninth inning, senior Gannon Hedberg stepped up to the mound for Minot North.
Hedberg kept pace with Danielson on the mound, earning two strikeouts for himself in the top of the ninth.
At the end of the ninth inning, the score was still 0-0, and the two teams headed into extra innings.
Hedberg earned two more strike outs in extra inning, one in the top of the eleventh inning and another in the top of the twelfth.
The Sentinels finally ended Tuesday night’s stand off with a walk off RBI single by senior Levi Balas, sending senior Trajan Hjelmstad home for the Sentinels’ one and only run of the game.
Minot North won their first game of the double header part way through the bottom of the twelfth inning with a score of 1-0.
