Entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Minot High softball team had two runs on four hits and found itself trailing by six runs.

With only six outs to work with, the Majettes produced nine runs on six hits and completed the furious rally on a walk-off two-run single off the bat of Kaylynn Webb in an 11-10 victory over Grand Forks Red River on Wednesday, April 1, at the MSU Bubble. It was the second consecutive day the Roughriders had been on the wrong side of a game ending in walk-off fashion.

The Majettes (2-0) trailed 8-2 going into the bottom of the sixth. Darby Mowbray led off the inning with a double to left and Grace Burdick followed with a two-run inside-the-park home run. After back-to-back walks, Daysi Alm singled home Emma Van Winkle to cut the deficit to 8-5.

Minot High wasn’t done. With two outs, McKenna Nygaard drew a bases-loaded walk and Mowbray tied the game with an RBI single to right, plating Alm to tie the game.

Red River (0-2) responded with a two-out rally in the top of the seventh to reclaim the lead. Ella Nelson doubled with the bases loaded to drive in Paisley Barton and Halle Robinson, putting the Roughriders back in front 10-8 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The Roughriders would fail to record an out. With a fresh pitcher on the mound, Bella Conklin led off with a walk on four pitches. Van Winkle replaced Conklin as a pinch runner and stole second during Taryn Dalton’s at-bat. Dalton reached base safely on an error at first base, allowing Dalton to score from second. Alm singled to move Dalton to second and a walk to Daya Wahlstrom loaded the bases with no outs. Webb put a ball in play on the first pitch she saw that got past Robinson at second base and into center field, allowing Alm and Dalton to score and give the Majettes their only lead of the contest. It was Webb’s lone hit in five at-bats.

Mowbray finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Burdick went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored and Alm collected two hits, an RBI and scored twice. The Majettes also drew 15 walks.

The Roughriders – the top team in the EDC Preseason Coaches’ Poll – plated six runs in the top of the second inning to jump out to a 6-1 lead. Red River brought 10 batters to the plate. Leading 3-1 with two outs, Jocelyn Berg cleared the bases with a three-run double to center field.

Red River would add a seventh run in the fourth before Minot High began its comeback.

Berg and Nelson each drove in three runs and had two hits.

The Majettes travel to Jamestown for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 2, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
