Lions score late to beat Jays 5-3
The Bishop Ryan-Our Redeemer’s Lions softball team defeated the Ray High School Jays 5-3 at home on Monday, Apr. 27.
The Lions’ sophomore shortstop Hayden Deeter kicked off Tuesday’s contest with a single into right field, allowing the Lions to score their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Senior Anna Hall kept the ball rolling for the Lions, hitting an RBI single into right field to earn the team their second run.
The Jays scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to tie the ball game at 2-2 and then took the lead with a single run in the top of the sixth.
The Lions tied he game once more in the bottom of the sixth inning with another RBI single into right field, this time by sophomore Viosa Cumani. Once on base, Cumani scored on a passed ball to give the Lions back their lead and senior Kirstin Brunner singled on a ground ball. An error at first base allowed Brunner to advance to second and allowed freshman Ruby Olson to run home for the Lions’ final run of the night.
The Lions held off the Jays in the top of the sevenths, giving them a win over Ray High School with their 5-3 victory.
The Lions are back on the road for the next game, facing the Stanley Blue Jays at Stanley High School on Tuesday, Apr. 28.
