Lakers conquer Lions, Feller earns 10 strikeouts

The Des-Lacs Burlington/Lewis & Clark Lakers softball team hosted the Bishop Ryan-Our Redeemer’s Lions on Thursday evening, Apr. 16, coming home with a 16-7 victory.

Sophomore Piper Feller was in the pitcher’s circle for the Lakers starting in the top of the first inning. Feller secured two strike outs in the top of the first and allowed just a single run from an error at home plate.

Though they started out behind, the Lakers quickly found their offensive footing in the bottom of the first.

Feller was the first to get the ball rolling for the Lakes in the batter’s box, singling to the Lions’ short stop Hayden Deeter. Feller’s hit allowed seventh grader Aleia Fluhrer to run home, tying the game and one run apiece.

The Lakers kept up the pressure in the very next at bat with freshman Ella Smith securing a two run RBI to center field. The Lakers secured two more runs in the bottom of the first with RBIs by freshman Jerzee Marquart and senior Elyssa Lindahl.

Feller secured another two strike outs in the top of the second, allowing just one runner on base on a dropped third strike and allowing no runs.

The Lakers widened their lead to double digits at the bottom of the second, earning six additional runs to bring the score to 11-1.

Feller secure three more strike outs through the third and fourth innings and the Lakers earned two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing the score to 13-1.

The Lions earned their first runs of the ball game since the first inning in the top of the fifth, earning five additional runs total. The Lakers worked their way back up to a nine-run lead at the end of the fifth inning at 15-6.

The Lions earned their last run of the game in the top of the sixth, and the Lakers earned their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double by senior Logen Ystaas.

Feller finished out the night for the Lakers in the itching circle, closing out the game in the top of the seventh inning with a pop out right to her.

Feller finished the night with 10 total strike outs, seven runs allowed and just nine allowed hits. She faced 34 batters during her time in the circle.

The Lakers will be back at home on Monday, Apr. 20, to take on the Stanley Blue Jays. The Lions will be back on the road to face the Nedrose Cardinals on the same day.
