Jordan’s gem gives Magicians split at Dickinson
Drew Jordan kept Dickinson’s offense in check during the second game of a doubleheader for the Minot High baseball team against the Mavericks on Tuesday, April 7.
Jordan allowed two runs on just two hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking five, as the Magicians came away with a 4-2 victory to salvage a split with Dickinson. The Magicians dropped the opener, 6-5.
Minot High (2-2 overall, 1-1 WDA) provided a bit of run support before Jordan took the bump for the first time. Gavin King put the Magicians in front with an RBI groundout to shortstop, allowing Tegan Schindler to score from third.
King collected his second RBI of the contest in the third inning with another RBI groundout, this time to second base.
Schindler provided Minot High’s final two runs. He singled home Carter Bush with a shot to center in the fourth and brought in Bush again in the sixth with a fielder’s choice to the pitcher. Schindler finished the nightcap 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
It was more than enough for Jordan, who allowed a run in the third off an error and another in the sixth on a double off the bat of Dickinson’s Mason Tormaschy. Jordan twice retired the side in order and struck out the side in the second. He didn’t face more than five batters in an inning and threw 94 pitches – 50 for strikes.
House picked up the save, striking out two in the seventh.
Cameron Wolf suffered the loss on the mound for the Mavericks (3-3, 1-1). He allowed two runs on two hits over three innings, striking out four and walking three.
In the opener, Minot High loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh trailing by a run, but couldn’t come up with the timely hit. Remington Anderson led off the inning with a single to center and moved to second on a walk to Jordan and third after Gavin King was intentionally walked. But Dickinson turned a bunt off the bat of Brock Thompson into a double play, as pitcher Kyler Kudrna got the out at the plate and catcher Josh Spillman threw out Thompson before he reached first. Owen Sundahl struck out to end the game.
The Mavericks broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth on an error at the plate allowing Azariah Ho to score on a lineout to center field by Cameron Wolf.
The Magicians led three times throughout the game, plating a run in the first, three in the second and one in the fourth. Anderson had a team-high three hits with an RBI and a run scored. Owen Meyer and Cole Deaver each collected two hits, with Deaver driving in a pair of runs.
Kudrna went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Dickinson. Jake Balliet and Cameron Wolf each had two RBIs.
The Magicians host Jamestown for a WDA doubleheader on Friday, April 10, at Corbett Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
