Girls Track & Field: Lade wins 800m at BPS River City Invite

Minot High senior Sophia Lade ran a season-best time of 2 minutes, 22.01 seconds to win the 800 meters as the Majettes finished fifth overall with a score of 86 at the BPS River City Invite on Tuesday, April 21, at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.

Lade finished a half-second ahead of Bismarck St. Mary’s Ella Selensky, who ran a 2:22.51. Bismarck High’s Bryar Jahner was third with a time of 2:22.79. Lade also won the 800m at the Mandan Kiwanis Invite last Wednesday.

She also served as the third leg of the 4×400 relay team that took third at 4:11.89. She teamed up with Marlie Stamps, Londyn Lauf and Scout Ulrickson.

The Majettes had seven individual top-six finishes and their 4×100 and 4×800 relays teams took second, while the 4×400 relay team was third.

Chinagozi Ugobi had a pair of top-three finishes in the field events. She was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3.5 inches. Bismarck Century’s Alexis Heinle won the event with a distance of 17-11. Ugobi took third in the triple jump with a jump of 35-1. Teammate Gracyn Bergan was second at 35-4. Century’s Alexa Bjornson jumped 35-10 to win the event.

Eve Knutson was runner-up in the 300m hurdles at 47.61. Leighton Johnson was sixth for Minot High, finishing in 49.33. St. Mary’s Lily Wilson had the top time of 46.98. Monica Boakye placed fifth in the 100m hurdles (17.03).

Hadlea Faul placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 37-2.75.

McKinnley Kragh was the top individual performer for the Sentinels, finishing fourth in the pole vault with a height of 10-3. The Sentinels’ 4×100 relay took third. Minot North had 19 points.

Century won the meet with a score of 142. Bismarck Legacy was second with 121 points. Bismarck High (100.5) and Mandan (97.5) made up the top four.
