Girls Tennis: Sentinels secure first WDA win of season at Williston
The Minot North girls tennis team won two of its three doubles matches to edge past Williston, 5-4, on Tuesday, April 21, at Davidson Courts for its first conference victory of the season.
The Sentinels (2-3 overall, 1-2 WDA) picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles after the teams split their six singles matches. Julia Stoner and Braxtyn Bennett delivered a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Dani Tinklenberg and Frances Manisbang. Alyviah Kopp and Abby Maerk claimed victory at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 7-6 (4) against Aslyn Engh and Massa Kpan.
Minot North secured wins at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles. Stoner topped Maci Heller, 6-2, 6-3. Bennett controlled her match from start to finish in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Manisbang. And Kopp bested Kpan, 6-2, 6-0.
Maerk and Engh played the only match to go to three sets. Engh came out on top with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory. Avy Ator and Tinklenberg also recorded wins for the Coyotes (0-5, 0-2).
Through five matches so far this season, the Sentinels have already matched their win total from a year ago.
Minot North hosts Bismarck St. Mary’s on Friday, April 24, at 4:15 p.m. either at Hammond Park or Cameron Indoor Tennis Center depending on the weather.
