Girls Tennis: Majettes remain unbeaten with sweep of Dickinson
All eyes were on No. 1 singles during the Minot High girls tennis team’s match against Dickinson on Tuesday, April 28.
Minot High’s Kyllie Fettig and Shayna Klizke matched up for the first time since the title match of the WDA Individual Tournament last year. Klizke took home the title with a 6-3, 7-6 (8) victory. She also bested Fettig 6-3, 6-1 in a non-conference match last year as well as in the WDA semifinals, winning 5-7, 7-6 (3), 10-8.
On Tuesday, Fettig flipped the script and earned a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4, victory over the reigning WDA champion and state runner-up, helping Minot High to a 9-0 victory over Dickinson.
Fettig was part of both matches that went to a third set. She partnered with Ella Sherven at No. 2 doubles and came from behind for a 4-6, 7-6 (1), 10-3 victory over Morgan Daley and Erin Daley.
Ava Thuner, Grace Olson, Ella Sherven, McKenna Odahlen and Alivia Sherven all won their singles matches in straight sets. Olson and Thuner topped Klitzke and Grace Dazell, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 1 doubles and Odahlen and Alivia Sherven won 6-0, 6-4, over Natalie DeLange and Ashlee Freeman at No. 3 doubles.
The Majettes (8-0 overall, 4-0 WDA) have swept five of their matches this season and are one of just two undefeated teams remaining in the WDA.
The only other remaining conference unbeaten is Bismarck Century, which Minot High will play next, hosting the Patriots on Thursday, April 30, at 4:15 p.m. at Hammond Park. The Majettes defeated Century 4-3 in a non-conference match earlier this season.
