Girls Tennis: Majettes pick up road victory against Mandan
The Minot High girls tennis team swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches in an 8-1 victory over Mandan in a battle of two undefeated teams in conference play on Thursday, April 23.
All three doubles teams for the Majettes (7-0 overall, 3-0 WDA) won their matches in straight sets, dropping just a total of six games. Kyllie Fettig and Grace Olson paired up at No. 1 doubles and defeated Eva Benz and Hailey Intveld, 6-0, 6-2. Ava Thuner and Ella Sherven topped Tayla Intveld and Annika Peterson, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles. Minot High completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory by McKenna Odahlen and Alivia Sherven over Brynn Feist and Sadie Cornell.
Minot High is 9-0 in conference doubles matches so far this season.
Fettig, Thuner, Olson, Ellla Sherven and Alivia Sherven all picked up their third singles victory in WDA play. Ella Sherven needed a third set to get past Peterson. She won the opening set 6-1, but dropped the second set 0-6, before regrouping and winning her match by taking the third set 6-1.
Thuner dominated her match against Feist, not conceding a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles. Fettig topped Benz, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, Olson bested Tayla Intveld, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles and Alivia Sherven rounded out Minot High’s match wins with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Cornell.
Mandan’s lone victory came at No. 5 singles, with Hailey Intveld picking up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win over Odahlen.
The Braves fell to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in WDA play with the loss.
The Majettes host Bismarck Century on Thursday, April 30, at Hammond Park at 4:15 p.m. Minot High and Century are the last two undefeated teams in conference play.
