Dickinson’s offense too much for Sentinels in sweep

The Dickinson softball team showed off its offensive production in a sweep of Minot North on Tuesday, April 7. The Mavericks plated 16 runs on 20 hits to open the series with a 16-7 victory and completed the sweep by scoring 11 runs on nine hits in an 11-1 win.

The Mavericks jumped out to a 10-1 lead through two innings of the opener. Gabriella Sobolik and Reagan McMahen each hit solo home runs and Sobolik hit for the cycle, going 4-for-5 with a home run, triple, double, single, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Dickinson (3-0 overall, 2-0 WDA) finished with 11 extra-base hits. Kyndall Peterson had two doubles and drove in three runs and scored twice. All nine starters for the Mavericks had at least one hit, and eight finished with at least one RBI and one run scored. Myah Merry and McMahen each had three hits.

Aven Kelly led the Sentinels (2-2, 0-2) with three hits and drove in a run. Alta Diedrichsen also had a multi-hit game. Mya Bagwell, Eliese McCann and Cole Kotaska each drove in a run for Minot North.

McMahen picked up the win in the circle for the Mavericks, tossing a complete game. She allowed two earned runs and struck out eight.

Kelly gave the Sentinels a 1-0 lead in the nightcap, homering to lead off the second inning. She had one of just three hits in the game for the Sentinels. Kate Coleman and Bagwell had the others.

The Mavericks responded with two runs in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. Peterson hit a solo shot in the fourth and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sobolik also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, two runs scored and a pair of walks.

Along with hitting a home run, Peterson was also the winning pitcher. She went all five innings, striking out six. Dickinson’s pitching staff didn’t allow a walk to the 52 batters they faced in the doubleheader.

Minot North hosts a doubleheader against Bismarck Century on Friday, April 10, at South Hill Complex beginning at 4:30 p.m.
