Boys Golf: Our Redeemer’s captures Velva Invite title
Jake Altringer shot a tournament-best 1-under 71 to take home medalist honors as well as help the Our Redeemer’s boys golf team win the Velva Invite at Star City Golf Course on Tuesday, April 28.
The Knights shot a collective 309 to finish 14 strokes clear of tournament-host Velva. Bottineau (329), Northern Lights (331) and Dunseith (334) rounded out the top five. Bishop Ryan placed six with a 339. Twelve teams competed in the event.
Altringer made the turn by eagling the par-five ninth hole to move to 3-under. He bogeyed four of his next five holes to start the back nine, but closed strong with birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to take home medalist honors. He had four birdies in total for his round.
Owen Vibeto also finished in the top 10, placing sixth with a 76. He finished with two birdies on the day. Payten Lindbo (80) and Ethan Brown (82) also factored in the team score.
Both the Knights and Aggies placed two golfers in the top 10. Velva’s Lincoln Finneseth (75) and Westin Brown (76) finished tied for fourth and tied for sixth, respectively. The duo combined for eight birdies.
Westhope-Newburg’s Tiger Lee finished runner-up to Altringer with a 73. Lee eagled the eighth and also carded five birdies.
Justice Lundeen led Bishop Ryan with an 83 for a 22nd-place finish. Crew Samson and Grady Keyes tied for 28th with 85s.
